Mary Roth

Hello! Welcome to my instructional design portfolio. I have selected a variety of my work products to share. My experience spans from infographics and videos, to facilitator-led workshops and multi-week onboarding programs. I have a passion for creating learner-centered training that builds confidence and drives performance.

Outside of work, I love spending time in nature, traveling and experiencing live music. I love the arts and have organized several community paint-by-number projects. Please take a look!

Transfer Learning Program

These items are part of a larger program designed to help all levels of Sales leaders and agents understand the importance of transfer and understand the new technology being implemented.

Introduction to Nationwide Transfer Network Video

This video provides an introduction to the Nationwide Transfer Network tool. This was the first technology release for the transfer program, so it was important for agents to see the tool in action.

Tools: PowerPoint for storyboarding. Snagit to capture screen recordings. Camtasia for video production. Audacity for audio recording and editing

Nationwide Transfer Network Job Aid

The job aid below was created as a “quick reference” for agents. As new functionality was added to the tool, the job aid was quick to update so agents always had the latest steps.

Term Life Quote Referrals

Situation: Nationwide Sales Solutions and Nationwide Financial partnered up and created a process where a P&C licensed agent could offer a prospective customer a scheduled call-back for a term life quote from a Nationwide Financial agent.

I was tasked with creating an on-demand module for sales agents to learn the new process. The objectives included explaining the importance of life insurance protection, the referral process in the quoting system, and tips to pitch a term life quote with confidence.

Solution: I used Rise to build the course, based on the short timeline. I created a “walkthrough” video to demonstrate the new referral process. I chose to use customer personas and photos when discussing sales tips, to reinforce the message that life insurance is peace of mind for the insured.

Tools: Course built in Rise, walkthrough video created using Snagit and Camtasia for visuals, Audacity for audio.

Agency Learning Path

Situation: Agencies who are new to Nationwide want to start selling quickly. Virtual trainings are typically geared towards the sales process, which leaves out other agency staff. Nationwide offers a robust catalog of on-demand trainings, but it’s difficult to know where to start.

Solution: I created an Agency Learning Path which provides direct links to the most relevant trainings by role. Agency staff can chose which content is most relevant, and easily refer back for additional training suggestions.

This PDF document can be shared by the Sales Manager during a set-up call, or a Training consultant during an onboarding training.

Predictable Journey

Predictable Journey is a multifaceted training program focused on the associate’s first year within the Personal Lines call center. This year-long training and development program is designed to help associates build the skills and confidence necessary to be successful, starting on day one.

Situation: The business unit approached the training team to help brainstorm solutions for associate attrition. It was determined that associates were leaving at the 3 month, 6 month, and 12 month marks due to lack of confidence, fear of being let go due to poor performance, and not seeing an opportunity to grow in their role. A working group from all areas of the company came together to offer suggestions. Once an initial plan was put together, I stepped in as project lead and the training team built out the program.

Solution: With a team of designers, we created a cadence of training, evaluation, support and feedback for associates. Our Quality Analysts and supervisors were actively involved in reinforcing the training and feedback.

Tools: Predictable Journey roadmap was built in Adobe InDesign. eLearing modules were built in Lectora, leader guides were made in Word and Adobe InDesign. Knowledge Assessments were created in ClassMarker.
